People make this place possible
REALM is built by educators, artists, makers, musicians, coaches, leaders, and community partners who believe young people deserve to learn from adults who are deeply engaged in the world.
Our team brings subject expertise. Just as importantly, they bring curiosity, care, judgment, and the ability to build relationships in which students can grow.
What makes a REALM educator
The freedom to teach with purpose
REALM teachers are not handed a script and asked to deliver it.
They design experiences around subjects they know and care about, then shape those experiences for the students in front of them. They learn together, review their work, share observations, and keep improving what a REALM classroom can be.
We look for adults who:
- See young people as capable, complex human beings.
- Know how to turn expertise into an invitation.
- Can hold both warmth and meaningful expectations.
- Pay attention to who is participating, who is uncertain, and what the group needs.
- Treat feedback and revision as part of their own practice.
- Care about building community, not only teaching a subject.

Expertise with a human center
Our educators arrive through many paths. Some trained in conventional classrooms. Others developed expertise through art, science, business, music, outdoor education, engineering, writing, coaching, or other professional lives.
What connects them is the ability to make a subject come alive while seeing the student behind the work.

Learning grows through real relationships, shared inquiry, and work students can make their own.
Beyond the classroom
The world is part of the classroom
Community partners extend what REALM can offer. They bring new places, practices, tools, perspectives, and relationships into students’ education.
Some partners host experiences. Some provide specialized instruction. Some help families access educational funding or accredited pathways. All help make learning more connected to the world students already inhabit.
Academic pathway partners
These relationships can help families connect REALM experiences with the educational pathway they choose and manage.
Community and experience partners
Local spaces and organizations create opportunities for learning through people, places, and projects beyond REALM.
Arts, athletics, and specialty partners
Practitioners open up new ways to make, move, perform, explore, and build specific skills.
Scholarship and nonprofit partners
Mission-aligned organizations can help expand access and strengthen a broader community of learning.
Come meet the people behind the model
The clearest way to understand REALM is to experience the relationships that hold it together.
