What students become
REALM creates people who can walk into the unknown with curiosity, confidence, skill, care, and the willingness to figure things out.
Impact is not only the number of classes offered or projects completed. It is what students understand, what they become capable of, how they meet difficulty, how they treat other people, and what they carry into the next part of life.
GROW
BECOME
Growth has more than one shape.
At REALM, graduates are…
The lasting measure of an education is visible in the questions students ask, the work they improve, the relationships they sustain, and the paths they choose.
These six qualities guide what we notice and cultivate over time.
Knowledge, courage, care, and agency.
Knowledgeable
Students explore more subjects, consequential ideas, and different ways of understanding the world. That breadth gives them a wider base of knowledge from which to learn, question, connect, and choose what to pursue more deeply.
Confident
Small classes, trusted relationships, and meaningful success help students understand that capability can grow. Reflection helps them recognize how they learned, not only whether the first attempt worked.
Capable
The Five Learning Habits help students practice curiosity, persistence, challenge, revision, and contribution until those practices become increasingly available in unfamiliar settings.
Caring
Students practice communication, empathy, responsibility, collaboration, and repair. Problems are handled through relationships and participation, not reduced to rewards and punishments alone.
Self-directed
Students make meaningful choices from a young age and take increasing ownership over time. They learn what they value, what matters, and how to direct their lives with greater intention.
Contributors
Students are asked to strengthen their learning community and to use knowledge, skill, creativity, and care in ways that affect the world around them.
Find something worth pursuing.
Our promise is to help every student discover something they care deeply about — and develop the knowledge, confidence, and capability to keep pursuing it.
Look closely at the learning.
The most useful evidence helps us see how a student thinks, makes, contributes, reflects, and grows.
Student work
Portfolios and public work reveal the knowledge, purpose, early attempts, decisions, feedback, revision, and final contribution behind an experience.
Teacher noticing
Specific observations show when students ask stronger questions, connect prior knowledge, return after setbacks, improve work, or strengthen a group.
Student and family reflection
Students and families help interpret what changed, what remains difficult, and what the student is ready to pursue next.
Paths beyond REALM
Alumni stories show how REALMers carry their knowledge, relationships, agency, and sense of meaning into many different futures.
